SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Pacific baseball program pounced offensively in an 11-5 victory over San Jose State on Tuesday night from Excite Ballpark.

The Tigers (6-6) earned their first road victory over the Spartans (4-8) since the 2019 season, tallying 11 runs on 11 hits spread out across the Pacific offense.

Five different Tigers recorded multi-hit performances, including redshirt sophomore Robert Orr, who crushed his team-leading third home run of the season that essentially put the icing on the cake in the top of the ninth inning.

Junior Derek Bartram was a key driver of the Pacific offense early on, going 2-for-4 with a pair of run-producing extra-base hits and three runs scored. Senior Jake Tandy continued swinging a hot bat too, going 2-for-5 with a pair of runs.

On the pitching side, Redshirt freshman Liam Smith (1-0) made his second career start on the mound and picked up his first career win in the process, going 6.0 innings and allowing three runs on five hits with four strikeouts. Junior Brady Wilson threw two scoreless innings of relief with three Spartan strikeouts. Graduate student Ethan Shaver, a native of San Jose, California, closed the door on the contest in the final inning.

SJSU scored the game’s opening run to go up, 1-0, after one inning. Pacific proceeded to bring home at least one run in the next four frames, holding a 6-2 lead after five innings.

The Tigers tacked on three more in the seventh inning to extend their edge to 9-3.

Orr hit a towering home run to left center field for Pacific’s tenth run of the night and the Tigers followed with one more insurance run in the ninth inning before Shaver sealed the 11-5 victory.

With the win, the Tigers are now 2-0 in their midweek games this season and have claimed victory over SJSU in five of their last six meetings.

Pacific continues its extended road trip against Mountain West foes, heading to Reno, Nevada to take on Nevada in a three-game series, beginning Friday at 6:05 p.m. from Don Weir Field at Peccole Park.
