BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — An investigation is underway for a deadly hit-and-run crash that happened on southbound Interstate 5 near Templin Highway late Friday night.
The California Highway Patrol said on February 27, 2026, at around 11:20 p.m., officers were called to a report of a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian on southbound Interstate 5, south of Templin Highway. CHP said a man was standing outside their vehicle when he was struck.
Officers responded to the area and found a 22-year-old man dead.
The County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner identified the man as Alejandro Covarrubias of Altadena.
CHP said the driver of the unknown vehicle did not stop. CHP is seeking any witnesses who may have been traveling in the area and might have eyewitness accounts of the incident or dash-mounted camera footage.
