Voter ID rally held outside elections office in Downtown Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A group of Valley residents gathered outside the Fresno County Elections Office in Downtown Fresno.

It was to share opinions about a proposed law to require Californians to show identification in order to vote.

The legislation could be on the ballot this November.

Tuesday’s rally included Republican assemblymembers David Tangipa of Fresno and Alexandra Macedo of Tulare.

Supporters say they have gathered enough signatures to leave it in the hands of voters and claim it will help reduce voter fraud.

Opponents argue voter fraud is extremely rare.

According to the Brennan Center for Justice, out of roughly 250 million mail-in ballots cast nationwide between 2000 and 2020, there were 193 criminal convictions for voter fraud.
