The Avs went 4-1-0 during their gauntlet five-game stretch out of the Olympic break. The trade market saw the first centerman come off the board, but it wasn’t any of the big names. Also, the trade market as a whole is heating up as the deadline inches closer.

All that and more on this edition of Deen’s Daily — March 4.

Colorado Hockey Now

We’re a little over 48 hours from the trade deadline and things are starting to happen. The Nashville Predators made two smaller deals on Tuesday, and one of the guys they traded was on my latest trade board, which was published yesterday. Michael McCarron is heading to the Minnesota Wild for a second-round pick, and Cole Smith is joining the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for a third-round pick and a prospect.

The most pressing question ahead of the deadline is, can the Avs do the thing? Is a reunion on the way?

Check out the trade board below.

The Avs defeated the Anaheim Ducks, winning on back-to-back nights and ending their five-game, seven-night run with a 4-1-0 record. Sure, the one loss was to the Minnesota Wild, but I don’t think anybody could complain about their record since the break.

One player who has helped orchestrate this run is Martin Necas. The Avs’ top-line winger was spectacular at the Olympics for Czechia and has been on fire since rejoining the Avs after the break. Nobody in the NHL has more points than Necas since the Olympics.

And only one member of the Avalanche has more goals than Parker Kelly since the calendar flipped to 2026.

Detroit Hockey Now: The Red Wings need help on the blueline, and they’re trying to entice Tyler Myers to waive his no-trade clause to join them. Even without Myers, one of their strengths, especially coming from the blueline, is shot blocking.

Boston Hockey Now: The Boston Bruins are in the midst of an incredible streak at home.

Toronto Hockey Now: The Blues might actually trade Robert Thomas and the Leafs are one of five landing spots that make sense.
