Deputies were involved in a standoff Wednesday with an armed man at a residence in a Saugus neighborhood.

The standoff began just before 9:30 a.m. in the 22000 of Pamplico Drive in the Santa Clarita Valley community north of Los Angeles. Shots were fired, but it was not immediately clear whether the rounds were fired at deputies, the department said.

Video showed at least seven sheriff’s department patrol SUVs positioned on a street corner outside a home. More SUVs and a sheriff’s department helicopter were on a field in a nearby park.

Deputies in tactical gear and an armored vehicle were outside the residence.

Details about what led to the standoff were not immediately available.

James Foster Elementary School and Arroyo Seco Junior High School were locked down. Saugus High School was on a soft lockdown.

One person was in custody later Wednesday morning.
