FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A manhunt is underway at Manchester Mall with Fresno Police scouring the area and any surveillance footage for a shooting suspect who remains on the loose.
On Thursday, both the mall and UEI College operated under normal hours.
The vocational and trade school confirmed that day and night classes have resumed with additional security on hand following Wednesday night’s shooting.
Around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Fresno Police officers responded to a shooting in the UEI college parking lot located in the Manchester Mall in Central Fresno.
When officers arrived, they found a 25-year-old man with a single gunshot wound to the left upper leg.
He was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released late Thursday.
The school confirmed the victim is a student.
According to police, the suspect, a man in his mid-20s, opened fire from inside a dark-colored car with two other people inside.
The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to learn the motive.
“We have information that the victim had been involved in a disturbance earlier in the day with a subject that he knows,” said Fresno Police Sergeant Diana Trueba Vega.
Investigators say the two went their separate ways with no resolution.
Just before the shooting, the pair met up again and an argument began.
“This time, the other party was accompanied by two additional males. There was a physical altercation and during the physical altercation and during the physical altercation, one of those additional males pulled out a firearm and struck the victim,” said Sgt. Trueba Vega.
In the light of day, a single bullet hole could be seen in a nearby vacant building, remnants from the chaotic shooting several hours before.
“This incident was a targeted incident; these people knew each other. They had some type of disturbance earlier in the day, so it’s not a random incident,” said Sgt. Trueba Vega.
A spokesperson for UEI College says it believes the suspect was not affiliated with the school.
Fresno Police are asking for anyone with information, including surveillance footage, to come forward. In the meantime, the search for the suspect and those involved remains ongoing.
