More children in the Boys & Girls Club of Fresno County have access to computers and a renovated building with help from a local trucking company.

On Tuesday, the Boys & Girls Club of West Fresno held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the unveiling of the newly renovated Tech Lab at the West Fresno Club, made possible through a $25,000 investment from Affinity Truck Center.

The key upgrades to the facility at 930 Tulare St. near Chinatown include the doubling of computers from 10 to 20, new flooring, fresh paint and new furniture to help create a bright, modern environment. Outdated countertops were also removed and individual lab tables were installed.

The renovation took about six weeks to complete.

These improvements will allow the West Fresno Club to open its doors to parents and families seeking support with career searches, FAFSA enrollment, digital literacy and more — providing no-cost access to technology in a community where nearby resources often come with user fees and barriers.

Affinity Truck Center has donated to the facility before, previously funding renovations for a multipurpose space called the Affinity Truck Youth Hub in 2022.

“We are grateful for Affinity Truck Center’s incredible investment in our youth,” said Jason Hannold, president and CEO. “This project creates meaningful opportunities for learning, career development, and connection to give our youth in West Fresno the tools they deserve.”

Hannold said the services provided by the Boys & Girls Club for children would not be possible without strategic partnerships.

Danielle Dobbins, controller at Affinity Truck Center, said the company wanted to get more involved in the community about five years ago and has since supported the West Fresno Club through Thanksgiving events, basketball and volleyball courts and other contributions.

“We’ve become a family,” Dobbins said. “This newest venture with this tech lab — we couldn’t be more happy to provide a better space for computers and everything to help the kids learn, grow, and thrive.”

West Fresno Club Director Jaunieace Wilson said the tech room is a clean space for kids to do their homework, go online and apply for scholarships.

“Thank you Affinity Truck Center for your five-year partnership and your love that you give to every single one of your kids,” Wilson said.
