Santa Ana winds will begin blowing on and off in San Diego County on Thursday and are likely to last through the weekend, with gusts hitting 35 to 45 mph in some areas, the National Weather Service said.

Forecasters warn that the system could generate strong crosswinds, making driving high-profile vehicles dicey in places like Interstate 8 east of Alpine.

The winds are not expected to substantially raise the risk of wildfires because the county has received a lot of rain since late December.

The Santa Anas will also lift temperatures countywide after several days of cool weather. The daytime high at San Diego International Airport is forecast to reach 69 on Thursday, 72 on Friday, 74 on Saturday and 75 on Sunday. The average seasonal high is 67.
