The Foods Co. in south Sacramento will be closing permanently and laying off 58 employees, according to an employment filing in late February.
The store 8122 Gerber Road in south Sacramento is set to close March 14. The WARN notice said the closure is due to “business and economic reasons.”
The grocery store is one of four in Sacramento.
The WARN notice said layoffs include positions from deli and bakery clerks, courtesy clerks, cashiers and store leadership.
“While the company is committed to identifying transfer and reassignment opportunities for impacted associates, some layoffs and terminations may still be required based on operational needs and contractual provisions,” said Kaina Pereira, the executive director of the California Workforce Development Board, in the notice. “This closure will be permanent.”
The Kroger company grocery store is exclusive to California, with most of its locations in Northern and Central California.
The company filed a WARN notice on the same day to close one of its three locations in Fresno. The Foods Co. at 3657 Shaw Ave. will also close on March 14.
Foods Co. in South Sacramento and Kroger did not respond to a request for comment.
Sacramento’s remaining Foods Co. locations are at 7421 W Stockton Blvd. in Valley Hi/North Laguna, 3625 Northgate Blvd. in Natomas, and 5330 Stockton Blvd. in Lawrence Park.
