Police tape at crime scene

Investigators were at work Wednesday after California Highway Patrol officers chased down multiple reports of shootings on Sacramento-area freeways that morning including one that sent a man to the hospital.

Officers were called to “multiple reports of vehicles struck by gunfire,” said officials at the California Highway Patrol’s Valley Division in a statement.

CHP and Sacramento police officers early Wednesday found a car in the area of Eighth and K streets in downtown Sacramento believed to be tied to a gunshot victim in the Dos Rios Triangle area of Sacramento.

Sacramento police responded about 5:30 a.m. to the area of Vine Street and Dos Rios Street in the Dos Rios Triangle area of Sacramento. Officers found the victim, who was taken to a hospital by emergency personnel, said Sacramento Police Department officials. Their condition was not known Wednesday.

The California Highway Patrol later took over the investigation, Sacramento police said.

CHP investigators continued to work in the area of Highway 160 and Interstate 5 Wednesday afternoon. Motorists were cautioned to expect delays in the area while the investigation continued.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to call the CHP Valley Division Major Crimes Unit at 916-731-6500.
