BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) With California’s primary election for governor four months away, Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco is outlining how he says he would tackle some of the state’s biggest challenges if elected.

Asked how he would reduce the price per gallon of gasoline, Bianco said he would roll back regulations and increase in-state production.

“I’m removing the regulations on California oil. We will absolutely be oil independent in this state. Kern County is going to supply us with the oil we need to be oil independent. It’s that simple,” Bianco said.

“Right now, were importing 80% of our oil from other countries. Why would we do that? We have it here.”

On homelessness, Bianco said he does not believe the situation is improving.

“None of us believe that homelessness is going down,” he said.

Bianco said his approach would include expanding treatment options. “We will provide alcohol treatment centers, drug treatment centers and treatment centers that treat both,” he said.

Bianco also weighed in on immigration.

“Anywhere across the country where there are any immigration issues right now is sanctuary state cities and states because they have created this environment as a purposeful way of dividing its residents,” Bianco said.

Asked what he believes separates him from other candidates, Bianco criticized both major parties’ approaches to the race.

“The Democrat side is just trying to convince everyone that they’re running against Donald Trump. They’re not. They’re running against me and they know it. They’re raising money to fight me,” he said.
