The city of Oakland is planning a rally next week to honor Olympic gold medalist Alysa Liu.Liu, who is from Oakland, became the first American woman to win a gold medal in the women’s figure skating singles competition since 2002. She also won a gold medal as part of the mixed team event at the Milan Cortina Olympics. The welcome home event is set to take place outside Oakland City Hall at Frank Ogawa Plaza on Thursday, March 12. Doors open at 9 a.m. and the program begins at noon.
