Kauai firefighters airlifted a 76-year-old California man clinging to a cliffside after he fell about 30 feet off a trail in Wailua on Wednesday morning.
An emergency call came in just before 11:45 a.m., according to the Kauai Fire Department, for the hiker in distress near the Kuilau Ridge Trail on the Garden Isle’s east side.
Firefighters were able to reach the man about two miles in, where they found him hanging on to vegetation to avoid falling further.
The Kauai Fire Department used an aerial rescue vest to rescue the man from his precarious position, and hoisted him into a helicopter.
He was then taken to a a landing zone at Loop Road, where care was transferred to American Medical Response.
The scene was cleared shortly after 12:50 p.m., KFD said.
