A man was found dead and a second person was detained after a shooting Wednesday night that led to a standoff with Sacramento police.
The shooting was reported about 8:30 p.m. in the 2800 block of Grasslands Drive, in the Metro Center area of South Natomas. Officers who responded to the scene found the wounded man and attempted to reach another person inside the home, Sacramento Police Department officials said.
Crisis negotiators and a police tactical team were called shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday to persuade the person inside the home to surrender, and the individual was ultimately taken into custody. Police officials said about 11:20 p.m. that the shooting victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will identify the man after next of kin are notified of his death.
Police had not made an arrest early Thursday, and homicide detectives continued investigating the deadly shooting, authorities said. Police did not disclose how the shooting occurred or whether the two individuals were related.
