OAKLAND, CA — Shoutout Oakland! City officials have announced the date for the Alysa Liu homecoming celebration, two weeks after the Bay Area native made history at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Liu became the first U.S. women’s figure skater in 20 years to win the gold medal at the Olympics on Feb. 19. She skated to Donna Summer’s “MacArthur Park,” capturing the hearts of fans around the world with her free spirit and joy.
Now, Liu, who put Oakland on the world stage any chance she could at the Olympics, will be honored with a special celebration rally on Thursday, March 12, city officials said.
The celebration will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Oakland City Hall’s Frank Ogawa Plaza.
The event will be free to attend, but city officials say reservations will be required to “ensure fair access. Each person will be limited to two tickets, city officials said, adding that tickets may not be sold.
“Let’s come together as a community to honor her incredible achievement on the world stage!” Oakland city officials said in a post online Thursday. “Alysa will be there in person.”
Tickets for the event can be found here.
