BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Bakersfield Police Department announced its new Chief of Police, Brent Stratton.

Police said, “With years of dedicated service and proven leadership, we are confident that Chief Stratton’s experience and commitment to public safety will greatly benefit our community. We are excited to welcome him to lead the Bakersfield Police Department and look forward to the continued partnership between our department and the community we proudly serve.”

The announcement comes as Chief Greg Terry plans to retire in April 2026. Police said Chief Terry joined the department in 1997 and became chief in 2020.
