SAN JOSE — A motorist hit and killed a pedestrian on a freeway offramp in East San Jose early Friday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fatal collision was reported at 12:29 a.m. on the exit ramp from northbound Interstate 680 to Alum Rock Avenue, the CHP said in a Friday news release. An initial investigation found that the pedestrian, identified only as a 63-year-old San Jose woman, was about halfway between the freeway and the surface street when she was hit by a driver who then left the scene.

She was taken to a hospital and died, the CHP said.

The CHP said it is treating the collision as a hit-and-run, but released no additional details Friday.
