A 63-year-old San Jose woman died early Friday after a driver struck her on a freeway off-ramp, authorities said.
California Highway Patrol officers responded at 12:29 a.m. Friday, to a report of a crash involving a pedestrian on the northbound Interstate 680 off-ramp to Alum Rock Avenue.
When officers arrived, the woman was being treated by medical personnel at the scene, the agency said. Investigators determined the victim was on foot and had injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle and that she had been located within the roadway, CHP said.
The woman was taken to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, authorities said. Her name has not been released pending notification of family.
The crash is being investigated as a hit-and-run, according to CHP.
Authorities did not immediately release details about the vehicle involved or how the collision occurred.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is asked to contact the CHP San Jose Area Office at 408-961-0900, according to the agency.
