OAKLAND — A driver who allegedly pointed a gun at a car containing a man and his 8- and 10-year-old daughters Thursday afternoon in an East Oakland road rage incident was later arrested and multiple firearms were recovered at his home, authorities said.
No shots were fired and no one was injured.
The incident happened about 3 p.m. Thursday in the 5000 block of MacArthur Boulevard.
According to initial police reports, a 55-year-old man who was driving a pickup truck became upset with the driver of a car who he apparently thought had cut him off. He pulled the truck alongside the passenger side of the car and allegedly pointed a handgun at the vehicle, which contained the man driving and his 8 and 10-year-old daughters who were in rear seats.
The car drove off and the truck briefly followed.
Police were able to develop information that led to the truck being located in the 2800 block of Seminary Avenue, parked outside what turned out to be the suspect’s home.
Police arrested the man and served a search warrant at the residence, seizing several firearms. Among them were the one believed used in the road rage incident as well as a pistol reported stolen out of Santa Rosa, an assault rife, a sawed off shotgun and other firearms, authorities said.
The man was booked at Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of assault with a firearm on a person, brandishing a firearm in public, brandishing a firearm at an occupant of a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property and other weapon related charges. He was being held in lieu of $300,000 bail Friday afternoon and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.
