MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS FROM ACROSS SACRAMENTO COUNTY ARE LEARNING ABOUT THE TRADES FROM PEOPLE WITH EXPERIENCE ON THE JOB. CAPITAL COLLEGE AND CAREER ACADEMY IS HOSTING ITS ANNUAL TRADES DAY. MORE THAN 400 MIDDLE SCHOOLERS INTERESTED IN ENTERING THE TRADES WERE INVITED TO TAKE PART IN THIS DAY. THEY GOT THE CHANCE TO SEE THE DEMOS AND PERFORM HANDS ON TASKS WITH WORKERS FROM A RANGE OF TRADE FIELDS ELECTRICIANS, CARPENTERS, MASONS AND PROS FROM 20 BUSINESSES AND UNIONS ANSWERED QUESTIONS FROM THE KIDS. IT’S AN EVENT THAT’S ALL ABOUT TEACHING KIDS AT AN AGE WHEN THEY CAN EXPLORE A WIDE VARIETY OF CAREER PATHWAYS. WE’RE HERE TO SEE THE LIGHT ON, HERE TO SEE KIDS FIND A PATH IN EDUCATION A LONG TIME AND I HAVE HEARD FROM SO MANY KIDS WHY I’M DOING THIS. WHAT’S THE POINT? HOW DOES THIS HELP? BUT WE CAN CONNECT SCHOOL WITH THE JOB. KIDS START TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THE PURPOSE IS. I JUST NEED TO FIGURE OUT WHAT I’M GOING TO DO WHEN I GRADUATE AND LIKE WHAT TO DO IN MY FUTURE. SO A DAY LIKE THIS IS HELPFUL. OH YEAH. VERY MUCH. WE GET TO GET A LOT OF INFORMATION FROM EVERY, EVERY TYPE OF TRADE. IT’S IT’S GREAT. HOW GREAT FOR THESE KIDS. I LOVE THAT THEY’RE THINKING AHEAD. Middle school students from Sacramento County are learning about trade careers at Capital College and Career Academy’s annual Trades Day event. More than 400 students interested in entering the trades were invited to participate, where they had the chance to see demonstrations and perform hands-on tasks with workers from a range of trade fields on Friday.Electricians, carpenters, masons, and professionals from 20 businesses and unions answered questions from the students.
