BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — A woman facing murder charges in the death of a 3-year-old in Oildale in 2024 had her trial delayed to June, according to Kern County court records.

Margaret Eichhorst is charged with murder and assault of a child under eight years old, resulting in great bodily injury or death. She was arrested in Feb. 2024.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office said on Feb. 9, 2024, at around 7 a.m., deputies responded to the area of Oildale Drive and El Tejon Avenue for a report of 3-year-old Alejandro Perez Jr. not breathing. Medical aid personnel responded and pronounced the toddler dead.

Eichorst was arrested after the child had injuries consistent with child abuse, said deputies. Pathologists determined through an autopsy that the cause of death was blunt force trauma, and the manner of death was homicide.
