Person dies after being struck by train in south Sacramento

A person was hit and killed by a train on Friday afternoon, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District. Sac Metro Fire said the person was hit around 3:15 p.m. Union Pacific Railroad said it happened at the tracks in the 8000 block of Tiogawoods Drive, near Gerber road. Those tracks are not located at a street crossing. None of the train crewmembers were injured, Union Pacific said, but support is being offered to them because they witnessed the crash. The crash caused traffic delays on Gerber Road in multiple directions.
