Who and what’s on the June 2 Fresno primary ballot

Campaign season is officially underway in Fresno, as the filing window for candidates seeking office in California’s primary election closes Friday.

Four of the seven Fresno City Council seats — District 1 in northwest Fresno, District 3 in parts of southeast and southwest Fresno, District 5 in southeast Fresno and District 7 in central and east-central Fresno — will be on the ballot.

Two of the five seats on the Fresno County Board of Supervisors are also up for election. District 1 Supervisor Brian Pacheco has announced he is running for state Assembly, and District 4 Supervisor Buddy Mendes is not seeking re-election.

Seven Fresno County Superior Court judge seats will also be on the ballot.

The primary election will take place on June 2. Registered voters can expect to begin receiving their vote-by-mail ballots in early May.

To secure a seat, a candidate must receive over 50% of the vote. If no one gets a majority of the vote in the primary, the top two candidates will advance to the Nov. 3 election.

While the candidate filing window closed Friday, a full finalized list of local race candidates will not be available before March 12, according to County Clerk and Registrar of Voters James Kus.
