48 Inch Water Main Break Prompts Flooding, Boil Water Advisory

Farmington Hills, MI – A 48-inch water main break has caused flooding and boil water advisory.

The break happened in Farmington Hills, with officials urging people to avoid 14 Mile Road between Drake and Farmington Roads.

The City of Farmington Hills released a statement saying that first responders rescued people who had been trapped in vehicles as the floodwater rose, with all known affected residents being brought to safety.

Crews from GLWA and the Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner’s Office (WRC) are on site working to isolate the break, assess the situation, and control water flow. The City is coordinating closely with both agencies.

West Bloomfield Police have also been helping secure the scene. They shared video of the flooding on Facebook.

The break impacted service to residents in parts of Novi. According to the City, “Early this morning, alarms alerted our team of a water pressure loss from the Great Lakes Water Authority transmission lines. Much of Novi is without water… Once service is restored, all affected areas will be under a Boil Water Advisory.”

Village Oaks Elementary (23333 Willowbrook) – School staff will be on site for water filling from 11 am to 4 pm. Bathrooms are also available. Residents should bring their own containers and enter through the cafeteria door.
