Every month in Silverlake, Los Angeles’s creative spirit takes center stage at Silverlake Shorts, a free short film screening series and nonprofit organization dedicated to celebrating local filmmakers, animators, and comedians. Hosted at the historic El Cid, the event offers a 90-minute showcase of independent storytelling. The screenings draw a full house of artists, cinephiles, and art-loving Angelenos.

Since launching in 2019, Silverlake Shorts has become a staple of L.A.’s grassroots film scene. It’s an accessible, community-driven space where emerging voices share the screen. Beyond its monthly screenings, the organization also curates special events throughout the year, featuring live music, comedy, art, and comics that highlight the depth and diversity of Los Angeles’s creative community.

When is the next screening?

The next screening of Silverlake Shorts is on Friday, November 7th, 2025. Doors open at 7:00 pm, and the screening starts at 8:00 pm. Each screening lasts around 90 minutes.

What to expect at a screening
