After one resignation and another term coming to an end, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has made two appointments to the Oakland University Board of Trustees.

Nate Engle succeeds Joe Jones, who resigned from the board last month. Engle will serve a term from March 5 through Aug. 11, 2028.

Engle is director of community engagement for the Michigan Department of Agriculture. His background includes leadership and management positions in public, private, and non-profit organizations.

“Oakland University is a world-class institution with global reach and demonstrated success moving the needle for a better Michigan,” Engle said. “I’m excited to join the OU community and contribute to the university’s future achievements and services.”

Shelley Davis Boyd will succeed Dennis Muchmore, whose term expires on Aug. 11.

Her 8-year term will begin on Aug. 12 and expire on Aug. 11, 2034.

Davis Boyd is the chief operations officer of M3 Group and previously served as director of communications, marketing, and public relations for the Michigan Association of School Boards. Additionally, she is an East Lansing library board trustee.

“As a single mother who graduated college by working fulltime, studying fulltime and raising a child fulltime, I know firsthand the transformative power of education in creating pathways that can change the trajectory of a person’s life,” said Davis Boyd. “I look forward to joining the Oakland University family and supporting its mission, so more individuals have access to life-changing education and opportunities.”

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with two individuals with such broad and impactful professional experience, as well as such a deep commitment to public service,” OU President Ora Hirsch Pescovitz said of the appointments. “I am confident that both will make highly valued contributions to Board of Trustees oversight.”
