Pasadena is under a Wind Advisory today as strong northeast winds move through Los Angeles County, part of a broader set of wind alerts issued by the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard.
The advisory, which includes the Los Angeles County San Gabriel Valley, is in effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. The National Weather Service said northeast winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, are expected across Pasadena and nearby communities listed in the advisory, including San Gabriel, El Monte, East Los Angeles, Pomona, Torrance, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Long Beach, Redondo Beach, Norwalk, Compton, Santa Monica, Downey, Avalon, Rancho Palos Verdes, and Culver City. Forecasters said gusty winds may blow around unsecured objects, tree limbs could be blown down, and a few power outages may result.
The Pasadena advisory accompanies a High Wind Warning in the mountains, where conditions are significantly stronger. That warning remains in effect until 3 p.m. Saturday for the Eastern San Gabriel Mountains, Western San Gabriel Mountains and Highway 14 Corridor, and the Santa Susana Mountains, including Mount Baldy, Wrightwood, Warm Springs, Oat Mountain, the Angeles Crest Highway, Mill Creek, Acton, and Mount Wilson. The National Weather Service said those areas are experiencing northeast winds of 25 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 70 mph. After 3 p.m., the High Wind Warning transitions to a Wind Advisory lasting until 3 p.m. Sunday.
A separate Wind Advisory covering a wide portion of Los Angeles and Ventura counties—including the Santa Clarita Valley, Ventura County Beaches, Ventura County Inland Coast, Central Ventura County Valleys, Malibu Coast, Western Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area, Calabasas and Agoura Hills, Western and Eastern San Fernando Valley, Southeastern Ventura County Valleys, Southern and Northern Ventura County Mountains, and cities such as Valencia, Oxnard, Santa Paula, Thousand Oaks, Glendale, Woodland Hills, Universal City, Newhall, Simi Valley, Burbank, Camarillo, Lake Castaic, Point Mugu, Port Hueneme, Chatsworth, Piru, Westlake Village, Van Nuys, Sunland, La Cañada Flintridge, and Newbury Park—remains in effect until 3 p.m. Sunday. Winds in those areas are blowing 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph, and are strongest in the foothills.
Additional advisories are in place for the Eastern Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area and the Interstate 5 Corridor, including Gorman, Tejon Pass, Topanga, and Pyramid Lake, where north to northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected through 3 p.m. Sunday. The Western Antelope Valley Foothills, including Elizabeth Lake and Lake Palmdale, are also under a Wind Advisory from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, with northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 50 mph.
The National Weather Service warned that winds may make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles, and advised the public to watch for falling debris and use caution if driving is necessary.
