A SigAlert has been extended in Boyle Heights after a cement truck overturned on the northbound 5 Freeway, getting stuck halfway over the edge of the freeway.
The California Highway Patrol said the truck, which is loaded with cement, has been spilling concrete since the crash on Saturday. The agency said the truck is over the K-rail and unsecured, threatening the 10 Freeway and train tracks below it.
Crews have been working to secure the truck from the dangerous position it’s in.
The driver was removed from the vehicle and was evaluated by paramedics at the scene. It’s unclear if they were injured in the crash.
Details on what caused the cement truck to overturn were not immediately clear.
CHP said the SigAlert has been extended to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. As a result, only one lane of the northbound 5 Freeway is open. The westbound 10 Freeway lane to the 5 Freeway is closed, too.
The agency said drivers are highly advised to plan for alternate routes in the meantime.
