SAN JOSE, Calif.  (March 7, 2026) – The Wyoming Cowboys used a balanced effort offensively shooting over 57 percent from the field in an 88-78 road win at San Jose State on Saturday afternoon in The Events Center in San Jose, Calif. Wyoming closed conference play with their fifth win in their last six games doing so for the first time since the 1999-00 season.
 
“We are starting to dial into our identity, and we took care of the basketball in the last 14 minutes,” UW head coach Sundance Wicks said.  “We tied the possession game, and we want to win that, but we shot well. Our guys were ready today and the guys brought their own juice today.”
 
Wyoming shot 57 percent from the field and were 9-of-19 from behind the arc for 47 percent. San Jose State shot 54 percent from the field and were held to only two makes from behind the arc. The Pokes owned a 31-21 advantage on the glass and recorded 23 second chance points.
 
Forward Gavin Gores recorded a career-high 20 points, as he was a perfect 7-of-7 from the field and 6-of-6 from the free throw line.  Damarion Dennis added 15 points and tied a career-high with six rebounds Leland Walker added 13 points on the night and seven assists. He was +26 on the night.  Simm-Marten Saadi added 10 points off the bench for his second game in double-figures this season. He was 4-of-5 from the field
 
Wyoming got off to a 5-0 lead thanks to a bucket from Dennis and an and-one play from Meyer. Gores added nine-straight points himself and gave the Pokes a 14-4 lead with under 15 minutes left in the first frame. Meyer added another bucket and the Pokes would cap a 9-0 run for a 16-4 lead.
 
Saadi added five-straight himself and would maintain the double-digit lead at 21-11 with under 12 minutes left in the first half. The Pokes made four-straight buckets highlighted by an alley-oop from Gores and a transition triple from Dennis for a 28-13 game with nine minutes left in the half.
 
The Spartans made it an 11-point game with six minutes left in the opening frame, but Adam Harakow knocked down a triple for a 37-23 game. The Pokes made a 10-2 run on the Spartans using the three-ball and transition and built the lead to 47-27 with under four minutes left in the opening stanza.
 
Colby Garland shaved the Pokes lead to 49-36 at the half with six points in the final two minutes of the frame. Wyoming dominated the glass in the opening 20 minutes with a 22-8 advantage and scored 14 second chance points.
 
Gores ended the Spartans 10-0 run from the end of the first half with another slam and Dennis made it a 53-38 game with 18 minutes left. The Pokes went scoreless for three minutes with the Spartans making it a 11-point contest.
 
The team made nine-straight shots combined, as the Pokes maintained the 63-52 lead with 12 minutes left in the game. Gores added an and-one play and got to 20 points to help the Pokes make it a 68-52 game halfway through the second half.
 
The Cowboys went scoreless for nearly three minutes with the Spartans making it a 70-60 game with seven and a half minutes left, but Khaden Bennett added a bucket as the shot clock expired to push the lead to 12.
 
Walker and Dennis added threes to help the Pokes move the lead to as much as 15 points with under three and a half minutes left. The Spartans kept on the pressure and made it a 10-point game at 84-74 with 1:50 remaining.
 
The Pokes added a pair of buckets from Saadi and Bennett and made it an 88-74 game with a minute left. Wyoming would then earn the 88-78 win and move to 18-13 overall.
 
The Spartans are led by Garland with 24 points going 8-of-16 from the field.
 
The Cowboys open up action in the First Round of the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championships on Wednesday as the nine-seed facing eighth seeded UNLV at 1 p.m. MT.
