The comeback always is greater than the setback.

That’s Fred Warner’s mindset after the star linebacker suffered a season-ending dislocated and fractured right ankle in the 49ers’ 30-19 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday at Raymond James Stadium.

Warner took to Instagram on Monday, where he posted his emotional reaction to his devastating injury and offered an inspiring message as he begins on his road to recovery.

In the post, Warner included a famous quote from the late Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant, who famously wrote in an Instagram post dedicated to former Boston Celtics forward Gordon Hayward after his 2017 Achilles injury: “Be sad. Be mad. Be frustrated. Scream. Cry. Sulk. When you wake up you will think it was just a nightmare only to realize it’s all too real. You will be angry and wish for the day back, the game back THAT play back. But reality gives nothing back and nor should you.”

Warner, understandably, probably is experiencing similar emotions right about now, but he made it clear on social media that those feelings will be very temporary as he soon will undergo surgery and begin his “legendary” road to recovery.
