Police are investigating a shooting Saturday in a busy shopping center parking lot in Fresno.

According to Fresno Police Lt. Michael Pierce, officers responded to the scene around 5:45 p.m. to the 7500 block of N. Blackstone Avenue, just south of the Raising Cane’s.

Police received reports of a disturbance between two groups of people, followed by gunfire in the Dollar Tree parking lot.

A ShotSpotter alert indicated two rounds were fired, and witnesses reported that the suspected shooter fled the area in a red Nissan sedan.

When officers arrived, they located two shell casings in the parking lot, but investigators did not find any victims.

“At this time we do not have any evidence to suggest that somebody was shot today,” Pierce said.

Investigators say the people involved in the disturbance are believed to between 15 and 20 years old, though no further descriptions have been released.

Police are currently searching for the suspect vehicle and following up on a possible address where the car may have gone.

Authorities are also speaking with witnesses and collecting video footage from cell phones and vehicles.

Police said it was fortunate no one was injured.

“This is a very busy parking lot, especially at 5:45 on a Saturday,” Pierce said. “People are shopping here, getting food. It was very fortunate someone did not get hit.”

Anyone with information or video from the incident is asked to contact the police at 559-621-7000.
