CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 19 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College men’s tennis team battled the No. 16 Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens on Saturday in the final match of their spring break trip to California. The Gusties won 5-2 over the Sagehens to improve to 7-5 this season.
Pomona-Pitzer opened the match with a pair of 6-1 wins at #1 and #3 doubles to take the doubles point, though Dominik Knutson and Takura Mhwandagara won their #2 doubles match 6-4.
In singles, the Gusties won five of the six matches to secure the team victory. Gage Gohl took #1 singles 6-4, 0-6, 6-3. Knutson followed his doubles win with a 6-0, 7-5 victory at #2 singles. Tyler Haddorff clinched a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 win at #3 singles. Deuce Daniel earned a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 win at #4 singles. The Sagehens took #5 singles, but then Noah Hakim went on to win #6 singles 6-2, 6-7, 6-2.
Up next for Gustavus is a return to Minnesota to prepare for a conference match against the Concordia College Cobbers on Saturday, March 14 at 3:00 p.m. at home at the Swanson Tennis Center.
