California is no stranger to natural disasters, and this week the state is helping residents prepare for not if, but when, the next big quake hits. The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services is rolling through the state with the Great California ShakeOut Tour, a mobile earthquake simulator that recreates shaking comparable to a magnitude 7.0 tremor. The tour began Monday at UC Davis on the West Quad near Memorial Union and will finish Thursday in San Diego. Organizers said the goal is to help people understand what a major quake can feel like and what to expect in the moments that follow, all while offering guidance on readiness at home and at work. The tour leads up to the statewide ShakeOut drill on Thursday at 10:16 a.m., when millions of Californians will practice their earthquake response.Tour schedule:MondayLocation: UC Davis, Address: West Quad near Memorial Union, Davis, CA 95616Public hours: 6 a.m.–1 p.m.Tuesday Location: San Francisco Zoo Address: 1 Zoo Road, San Francisco, CA 94132 Public hours: 6 a.m.–1 p.m.WednesdayLocation: Cal State FullertonAddress: Pollak Library, 800 North State College Blvd., Fullerton, CA 92831 Public hours: 6 a.m.–1 p.m.Thursday Location: Waterfront Park Address: 1600 Pacific Highway, San Diego, CA 92101 Public hours: 6 a.m.–1 p.m. See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app | Subscribe to our morning newsletter | Find us on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel
