A Long Beach man has been arrested for allegedly driving into his 89-year-old father and killing him, police said Sunday.

Long Beach police say Robert Porter, 50, intentionally drove into William Porter, 89, during a family disturbance in the 600 block of West Wardlow around 1:53 p.m. Saturday.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found William pinned underneath the vehicle in front of a residence, police said. Nearby residents helped officers to free William using a floor jack to raise the vehicle, police added.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and gave aid to Porter, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

When homicide detectives arrived, they took Robert into custody, according to the LBPD.

He was booked for murder and his bail was set at $2 million, authorities said.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to call Homicide Detectives Ethan Shear or Kelsey Myers at 562-570-7244.
