The San Dieguito Union High School District celebrated the arrival of four new RIDE electric school buses on March 5 at the district’s transportation hub in Encinitas.
According to the district, the four buses represent an important step in modernizing their transportation fleet, transitioning from traditional diesel vehicles to zero-tailpipe-emission buses. The new electric rides replaced transit-style buses that were manufactured in 1998.
San Dieguito’s transportation department maintains and operates a fleet of school buses to serve students’ with the highest needs as well as athletic teams. The district’s last remaining middle school bus routes were cut in 2020 due to declining ridership.
