A man suspected of prowling outside homes in East Oakland was arrested Monday in connection with a series of incidents that alarmed residents for months, police said.

The Oakland Police Department said patrol officers arrested the man just before 11 a.m. Monday in the area of the 3700 block of Carrington Street, near Fruitvale.

Police did not identify the man arrested, and did not give any details about him.

Since Dec. 13, police have received at least six reports of a prowler peeking inside homes, according to the department. Authorities said the incidents may be linked to additional reports dating back to March 2025.

Many of the recent reports occurred between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. in Maxwell Park, a residential neighborhood near Mills College, and police said they deployed additional patrols in the area to investigate.

Before the arrest, authorities described the suspect as a balding man in his 40s or 50s, possibly Caucasian or Latino. He was seen wearing a black jacket, a white hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

A conviction for prowling in California could come with six months in county jail and up to a $1,000 fine.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, and asked anyone who believes they may have been a victim to contact the OPD Special Victims Unit at 510-238-3641.
