THE GAME: The Angels scored two runs in the ninth inning to beat the San Francisco Giants, 2-0, on Monday at Scottsdale Stadium in Scottsdale, Ariz.

PITCHING REPORT: Right-hander José Soriano pitched five scoreless innings, allowing one hit. He did not walk a batter and he struck out four. “He was pretty good,” Manager Kurt Suzuki said. “He attacked with his fastball, was hitting with his offspeed, mixed it up really good.” Soriano said he missed about four days of workouts because of an illness since his previous outing. “Sometimes when you have your mentality ready for everything, it doesn’t matter if you’re sick or whatever,” Soriano said. “Try to be ready, and that’s what I did.” The first Angels pitcher to complete five innings this spring, Soriano needed only 60 pitches. He completed his final two innings with just 12 pitches. … Right-hander Chase Silseth pitched a scoreless inning, working around a double. He threw just 10 pitches, nine for strikes. He induced four whiffs on eight swings. … Right-hander George Klassen, one of the Angels’ top pitching prospects, pitched three scoreless innings on 34 pitches, with two strikeouts. Klassen’s fastball averaged 98 mph. Klassen, who was hit in the head by a line drive last season at Double-A, went to the ground to avoid a line drive that was caught by shortstop Yolmer Sanchez.

HITTING REPORT: The Angels used some solid situational hitting to break a scoreless tie with two runs in the ninth. Gabriel Davalillo – the Angels’ 18-year-old catching prospect – punched a ground ball through the right side with the runner going on a 3-and-2 pitch, putting runners at the corners. After Sanchez drove in the first run, the Angels added an insurance run on Donovan Walton’s squeeze bunt. “That’s kind of what we’ve been preaching this camp is the little things,” Suzuki said. “That’s what’s going to help us win. We’re going to have pitching, we’re going to play some tight games and we gotta execute.” … Oswald Peraza had the Angels’ first hit, in the fifth inning, and he was then caught stealing. Peraza also hit a fly ball to the warning track. Peraza is hitting .321 (9 for 28) with a 1.046 OPS this spring. … Mike Trout was hitless in three at-bats. Trout is hitting .238 (5 for 21) this spring. … Christian Moore hit a 114 mph line drive right to third baseman Matt Chapman, who doubled Zach Neto off second.

DEFENSE REPORT: Peraza, the second baseman, charged in to grab a bouncer that deflected off the glove of Soriano, and made a quick throw to get the out at first.
