LAPD officer accused of taking $700 in cash from car

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — An investigation is underway after a Los Angeles police officer reportedly stole hundreds of dollars in cash from a car while responding to a call for service.

Video footage from sometime last week shows the officer from the Transit Services Division rifling through the unlocked Tesla, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times, which cited an LAPD official familiar with the case. The officer also allegedly switched off his body-worn camera before doing so.

The owner of the Tesla later reported that $700 was stolen from inside their car.

When he was confronted, the unidentified officer said he intended on booking the money as evidence but forgot to do so. He has reportedly been placed on administrative leave during the internal investigation, the Times reported.
