FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — 17 draft-eligible Bulldog football players worked out on Fresno State’s annual Pro Day on Monday afternoon. For at least one of them, it was an opportunity he never saw coming.
“Not in a million years,” said former walk-on Camryn Bracha.
Time has flown by for these Fresno State seniors.
“It felt like we just finished our last game in Tucson, Arizona,” said former captain and linebacker Jadon Pearson.
Now it’s time to show NFL scouts what they’re all about.
“Fresno State, we’re a school that’s kind of on the lower side,” said cornerback Al’Zillion Hamilton, “but we’ve got players with grit over here. So don’t sleep on Fresno State, that’s all I’ve got to say.”
And don’t sleep on Hamilton, who ran the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds flat, the fastest time on the team.
Perhaps some advice from a former Bulldog teammate at Pro Day, current Green Bay Packers safety Evan Williams, gave Hamilton the right mindset to perform.
“I was talking to AZ, telling him to soak it up and enjoy the moment,” said Williams. “It’s easy to get caught up in the stress of things. You know, it’s the biggest job interview of your life.”
Hamilton also finished with the best shuttle and three-cone times of the day. The All-Mountain West 2nd teamer said Monday’s workout reminded him of high school tryouts – sort of.
“In high school, my coach was way more strict,” Hamilton explained. “He used to talk smack to me all the time. So it’s a little different, because [the scouts] are just out here watching.”
There were 16 NFL teams watching, to be exact, and just the opportunity to perform in front of them – possibly impress one of them – humbled the Clovis native Bracha.
“A lot of good people in my corner who have helped me get here,” Bracha said. “A lot of friends and family, so it’s just awesome that I get to represent them as always.”
If they were nervous to work out in front of half the NFL, then these Bulldogs certainly did not show it.
“Me worrying about it, me staying up tossing and turning is not going to really change anything,” said Pearson. “All you can really do is just do your best. And that’s what I came out and did today.”
