A gas leak in San Jose prompted the evacuation of about 10 nearby homes before being capped Tuesday, according to city fire officials.
The San Jose Fire Department initially responded at 11:17 a.m. to a report of a break in a 2-inch gas line in the area of Donnici Street and Altino Boulevard in the Communications Hill neighborhood.
Along with the homes that were evacuated, residents in other homes in the area were asked to shelter in place while PG&E crews responded to the leak, fire officials said.
The Fire Department said early Tuesday afternoon that crews were beginning to clear from the scene after the leak was capped and air monitor readings in the area turned up negative.
