ANAHEIM, CA — Seven Disneyland cast members were hospitalized Tuesday afternoon after an odor was reported in a backstage area.
Anaheim Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the theme park around 12:30 p.m. following reports of an unknown smell, police said.
The seven employees were transported to the hospital for minor injuries ranging from dizziness to shortness of breath, said Sgt. Matt Sutter of Anaheim Police Department.
The cause of the odor was determined to be building contractor materials, Sutter said.
Disneyland officials said building materials being used by a contractor produced a reaction backstage at the theme park, and the area was examined by response teams. Several cast members were treated on-site by paramedics and released; and seven cast members experiencing dizziness and shortness of breath were transported to local hospitals.
The odor was reported in a backstage area at the park. Tomorrowland was the closest attraction to the area where the odor was reported, officials said.
Out of an abundance of caution, adjacent onstage areas were cleared of guests and are expected to reopen soon, Disneyland official said.
First responders were leaving the scene around 4 p.m., police said.
Operations have resumed at Disneyland, police said.
