LONG BEACH, Calif. — Long Beach State graduate student Rori Denness-Lamont earned The Big West Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors on March 9 following a standout performance in the women’s javelin at the Beach Opener.
Competing in the first meet of the 2026 outdoor season, Denness-Lamont won the javelin event with a throw of 53.89 meters (176 feet, 9 inches), breaking the Long Beach State program record of 52.63 meters (174 feet, 8 inches) that she previously set.
Her mark currently ranks first in the Big West, first in the NCAA West Region and first nationally.
The performance marked an impressive return for the White Rock, British Columbia native, who did not compete during the 2025 season due to injury. Denness-Lamont opened her 2026 campaign in dominant fashion, setting the tone for the Beach in their first outdoor meet of the year.
The Beach opened the season by hosting the Beach Opener at Jack Rose Track in Long Beach, Calif., where Long Beach State welcomed teams from across the region for the two-day meet.
