SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Senior Alejandro de Castro Piera carved up the San Diego Country Club in the opening round of the R.E.L. Invitational, matching his career low with a 9-under par 63 in the first of two rounds on Monday.
Day One Results
The senior followed up his spectacular first round with a 2-under 70 in the second round, finishing the day with a four-stroke lead on Chanachon Chokprajakchat of San Diego State, -11 through two rounds. The 63 was his best round of the season so far, with seven birdies and an early on hole two.
As a team, the Beach got off to a strong start in the opening round. Jaden Huggins, Steen Zeman and Krishnav Chopraa all shot 70 in the first round, as the Beach was -15 after the first round. Huggins followed that up with a 71, finishing the day 3-under par and just outside of the Top 10 in a tie for 11th. Zeman was even in round two, also picking up an eagle on two to finish the day -2.
Long Beach State is locked in an exciting three-way battle at the top of the team leaderboard with co-hosts San Diego and San Diego State entering the final day of competition.
