SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Long Beach State Men’s Golf put two in the top five at the R.E. Lamkin Invitational at San Diego Country Club, finishing in second place behind the co-hosts, San Diego.

Alejandro de Castro Piera was in the Top 5 for the second time this year, finishing one stroke behind tournament champion Kihei Akina in sole possession of second place with a tournament score of -13 after a second straight round of 70 following his opening round of 63.
 
Senior Jaden Huggins had his best round of the tournament, climbing into the top five, tied for fourth place overall. Huggins had five birdies with no bogeys on the way to a 5-under-par 67 on Tuesday. Jack Cantlay was also under par on Tuesday with a 68, moving into a tie for 24th, +1 for the tournament.
 
Krishnav Chopraa had the day’s final counting score, an even-par 72, while Steen Zeman closed the tournament in a tie for 35th.
 
As a team, Long Beach State finished two strokes behind the co-hosts San Diego, but in front of fellow Top 50 members BYU, San Diego State and Colorado, second overall in the 16-team field.
 
Long Beach State will get right back into action next week, competing at the Wildcat Intercollegiate hosted by Arizona in Tucson on March 16-17.
