While airports across the country are experiencing long lines at TSA security checkpoints, that doesn’t appear to be the case in Fresno.
“Fresno Yosemite International Airport is currently not experiencing impacts to day-to-day operations due to the partial government shutdown,” according to FAT media and public relations officer Vikkie Calderon.
Indeed, things looked fairly normal as travelers moved through Fresno’s air terminal Tuesday afternoon.
That said, the Department of Homeland Security is coming up on nearly a month-long shutdown shut as Congress fights over funding for the agency, which includes the Transportation Security Administration. And this week will be the first in which TSA workers have not received a full paycheck since the shutdown began. Some workers have reportedly taken time off (or quit), causing shortages and delays.
It’s also the beginning on spring break, a major travel season.
“FAT is working with its federal partners and monitoring the situation day-by-day,” Calderon told The Bee.
Any impact to airport operations will be communicated to travelers through social media updates.
A request for comment from the TSA was not immediately returned.
