Substantial defensive-line help soon will be on the way for the 49ers.

San Francisco has completed a trade with the Cowboys for defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa, Dallas announced on Wednesday.

Before the trade became official, a source confirmed the deal to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Jane Slater were first to report the news.

The 49ers are sending a third-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, No. 92 overall, to the Cowboys for Odighizuwa.

The 49ers reach agreement to acquire DT Osa Odighizuwa from the Cowboys in a trade for a third-round pick (No. 92) overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, source confirms.

Odighizuwa, 27, has appeared in 84 games with 76 starts since Dallas drafted him in the third round of the 2021 draft. He recorded 3.5 sacks and 44 total tackles in 2025 and has 17.0 sacks across his five-year career.

The pass rusher just completed the first year of his new contract with Dallas — a four-year, $80 million extension he signed last offseason. In 2024, when he earned that deal, Odighizuwa led the Cowboys in interior pressures with 60 and tallied career highs with 4.5 sacks and 23 quarterback hits. He matched those 23 QB hits last season.

Odighizuwa underwent a minor cleanup procedure on his elbow this offseason but is expected to be ready for the offseason program, per ESPN.

After finishing last in the NFL in sacks (20), 31st in pressures and 29th in pass rush win rate (29.2 percent), the 49ers certainly are looking to return to their dominant defensive ways in 2026. With a healthy Nick Bosa back in the mix, now they’ll have Odighizuwa, hopefully wreaking havoc on the inside.
