SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Illinois State men’s tennis team kicked off a busy week of tennis in the California sunshine in Sacramento on Wednesday, as the Redbirds took on Sacramento State in the first of three matches for ISU over Spring Break in California. The hosts were dominant in the match, as Sac State picked up a 7-0 win over Illinois State at the Sacramento State Tennis Complex.
Sacramento State took the early lead in the match by winning two out of three doubles matches to secure the first point of the contest. The Hornets picked up a win at the No. 2 spot, but the Redbirds were able to tie things up with a win on court No. 3 as Christian Capacci and Manuel Pavia defeated Martin Duris and Sebastian Vlahos by a score of 6-4. However, Sac State would secure the doubles point with a 7-5 win at the No. 1 spot.
The Hornets would sweep the six singles matches against the Redbirds to secure the 7-0 sweep. The Redbirds battled in four of the six match and took them to three sets, but Sac State would ultimately pull out the wins and earn the victory.
The Redbirds continue their Spring Break trip in California on Friday, when they take on Menlo College at 2 p.m. CT. They will wrap up the road trip on Saturday against UC Davis.
