Police say a motorcyclist was killed in a solo crash last night near the Long Beach sign where the 710 Freeway empties out into downtown.

At about 7:23 p.m. on Wednesday, officers responded to a crash on West Shoreline Drive near Broadway, according to Long Beach police.

The man was riding a black 2003 BMW motorcycle southbound on West Shoreline Drive when he merged onto the Broadway off-ramp, lost control and went over the concrete barrier before colliding with a pole, police said.

The motorcyclist died at the scene, according to authorities. His name was withheld pending family notification. His age wasn’t immediately available.

Speed was a possible factor in the crash, police said.
