Driver leads CHP on high-speed chase through East LA area

EAST LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A driver on Thursday morning reached speeds of up to 115 mph while being chased through the East Los Angeles area by the California Highway Patrol.

The pursuit began in South Los Angeles before making its way from the 710 Freeway in the San Gabriel Valley, then onto surface streets and through the city of Commerce. The suspect was wanted for failure to yield, authorities said.

Authorities at one point went into “tracking mode” and the driver stopped at a gas station before continuing on. Shortly before noon, the suspect pulled into a residential driveway in the 6200 block of River Drive in Bell, just west of the Los Angeles River. The driver was greeted by a dog before walking into a home on the property.

At least half-a-dozen CHP units arrived minutes later and a standoff ensued as officers surrounded the single-story residence.
