CHICO, Calif. — California State Parks is asking people to help decide what should happen next at Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park after a fire damaged the historic building in December 2024.

The agency has launched an online survey to gather ideas for a new “Reimagine Bidwell Mansion” Vision Plan. The plan will guide what the park becomes in the years ahead.

The survey is open through Friday, April 24, on the project website: ReimagineBidwellMansion.org. It takes about 15 minutes to complete.

State Parks officials said the survey asks visitors and community members to share thoughts on how people should experience the park, what could happen to the fire-damaged mansion, what topics future education programs should cover and whether programs or facilities should change.

The agency will also host a virtual Community Workshop from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 14. During the online meeting, people can learn more about the project, ask questions and share ideas. Registration is available at reimaginebidwellmansion.eventbrite.com.

In addition, State Parks staff will hold two in-person “pop-up” events at the Certified Chico Farmer’s Market in the downtown Chico Municipal Parking Lot at 2nd and Wall streets. The events are scheduled for 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 14 and March 28. Staff will answer questions and provide information about the project.

State Parks said more pop-up events could be announced in April.
